Fishing vessel sank after slamming into anchored vessel
Volunteer crew from both Blyth and Cullercoats RNLI responded to a Mayday call after a fishing vessel collided with the "Imavere" which was anchored north of the Tyne piers on Sep 25, 2019, at 5.40 p.m. The Blyth RNLI volunteer crew launched their Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat to assist and headed south arriving on scene within 15 minutes. The Cullercoats RNLI were already in the area on a training exercise and diverted to assist the fishing vessel. Both volunteer crews used their salvage pumps to try and pump out the water that the vessel was taking on board but the attempts of the volunteer crews were unsuccessful. The crew from the stricken fishing vessel was safely transferred to the Cullercoats RNLI Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, while the vessel sank stern first. Both lifeboats left the scene after clearing debris from the area. The Blyth RNLI returned to station at 7.40 p.m. Reports with photos and video: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-tyne-49839750/tyneside-fishing-boat-sinks-after-hitting-cargo-ship https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2019/september/25/blyth-and-cullercoats-rnli-respond-to-mayday-call
