Fire caused severe damage
The "Hua Xin 858" issued a distress signal in the afternoon Jan 17, 2016. A fire had broken out in the engine room and got out of control, spreading to the superstructure off Yingkou port in the Bohai Sea. Two Coast Guard salvage and firefighting ships assisted in extinguishing the fire. The crew was evacuated on board of the rescue vessels, as preventive measure, during the firefighting operation. The fire was extinguished during the night, but according to preliminary assessment the damages are severe. The ship was towed to Yingkou for repairs and surveys of its seaworthiness. The ship engine was destroyed, and the vessel will need of aggregate maintenance before returning in operations. Also the superstructure was seriously damaged, as well as the engine control room.
