Dredger capsized, but did not sink

The Helle Saj" capsized, but did not sink, while working near Thyborøn harbour on March 17, 2018. On the way to a dumping ground the vessel touched bottom, causing it to list 90 deg to port side. However, it drifted in the current towards the Limfjord quay and, when in deeper water with a depth of eight metres, it corrected the list to around 45 deg. In the meantime the Thyborøn lifeboat "Martha Lerche"had arrived on the scene and was able to push the "Helle Saj" toward the quayside, where external help arrived. That combination made it possible to fasten the vessel to the quay and later empty it of its cargo of sand/silt taken from the seabed. The workshop in the forepart of the vessel was filled with water and the excavator on the foredeck was drowned. The aft with engine-room, accommodation and wheelhouse sustained only minor damage from ingress of water. Presently the vessel was still lying at Thyborøn awaiting assessment of damages. It leftport on May 18 at 08.400 a.m.
