Considerable damage was caused by a failed maneuver of the "Luxury SW" in the North Port of Kiel on Apr 8, 2011, at 2.30 p.m. The ship was being turned around in the Kiel Canal, after having loaded grain at the silo in the recent days, in order to proceed westward towards Mersin. During the turning maneuver the freighter allided with the quay of the Bominflot bunker station with its bulbous bow below the water surface. Some amounts of oil mixture, which probably dates back to times of war and had accumulated under water, emerged after the ship hit the quay. Due to the strong winds and turbulent water it was not possible to recover the oil. In the evening the ship was approaching Brunsbuettel.
