Nine Covid 19 cases on board - ship returns to Frederikshavn
Nine crew members of the 'Thetis' have tested positive for Covid-19, which is currently deployed under Arctic Command in the North Atlantic. The 'Thetis' is now on its way home to the Navy base in Frederikshavn, where a corona contingency will receive the crew. The Covid-19 outbreak was discovered shortly before the arrival in Klaksvig in the Faroe Islands on Dec 12, 2020, where the ship's doctor had identified an infected person. Upon arrival at the Faroe Islands, the entire crew was tested, and here nine positive Covid-19 samples were found. The ship isolated the nine crew members, and seven other crew members who had shared the hatch with the infected, thus limiting the possibility of infection spreading on the ship. Fortunately, none of the Covid-19 positives have been hit hard by the infection. It was not yet clear how the infection came on board. The Arctic Command and the Navy decided, in consultation with the Armed Forces Sanitary Command, to send the 'Thetis' to Denmark for an operational break to deal with the outbreak, a voyage of approximately two days. The 'Thetis' is due to arrive at Frederikshavn on Dec 15. The Navy was in dialogue with the North Jutland Region to obtain support so that the crew can again be tested and isolated locally in Frederikshavn. The 'Thetis' will be cleaned, and the goal is to send the ship back to the North Atlantic as soon as possible.
