Distressed fishing vessel towed to Fishguard
On Jan 10, 2020, at 6.41 p.m. the RNLI boat of New Quay was paged to assist the 'Chris Tacha - PL 26' which was distressed with a rudder failure with a crew of six on board approx. 17 miles Northwest of New Quay. Due to the size of the vessel and the poor weather conditions, the Fishguard lifeboat was also tasked. The New Quay lifeboat was first on scene and established a towing connection. By midnight, conditions had deteriorated to wind force 9 and, withthe Fishguard lifeboat standing by, they commenced a 28 mile tow, arriving in Fishguard on Jan 11 at 3 a.m. The Fishguard lifeboat set up an alongside tow and the vessel was safely manouvered alongside the harbour wall. With the casualty vessel safely berthed, and after a few hours rest, the lifeboat set off for New Quay and arrived back at 10:45 a.m., 16 hours after launching.
