Deepocean wins Walney Extension contract from Dong
Norway’s DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Dong Energy for installation and trenching works for the Walney Extension offshore wind project in the Irish Sea. The project scope includes route engineering as well as the installation and trenching of a total of 136km offshore export cables and a 23 km interlink cable. The offshore work will be carried out in 2017 by new cable installation vessel Maersk Connector which joins the DeepOcean fleet early 2016. Ottar Maeland, EVP Greater North Sea for DeepOcean, said “We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Dong Energy from the offshore oil and gas market to the key growth area of offshore wind. This is a major contract using our state of the art new cable installation vessel Maersk Connector and the versatile installation and trenching vessel Havila Phoenix.” The Walney Extension Project is located in the Irish Sea west-south-west of the Isle of Walney coast in Cumbria. Havyard to convert Havila Phoenix
Havila Shipping has signed contract with Deep Ocean who has chartered the subsea vessel «Havila Phoenix» for cable laying and trenching operations. The contract is for seven years with four one-year options and means that the vessel needs to undergo a major conversion before commencing the contract. Havyard Ship Technology will do the conversion, which is scheduled to be finished in March 2014, the Company said in a press release.
