Second LNG-powered OSV chartered from Harvey Gulf takes to the water in the Gulf of Mexico
he new LNG-powered Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV) "Harvey Power", chartered from specialist company Harvey Gulf International Marine. This is the second in the region OSV (along with "Harvey Energy") that will run on both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and diesel fuels, Shell said in a press release. The ‘Harvey Power’ will run on 99% LNG fuel. In addition to using LNG as a fuel, the OSV will also use high efficient Gadinia 40 as its engine oil. It will load from Harvey Gulf’s LNG bunkering facility currently under construction at their terminal at Port Fourchon, Louisiana’s southernmost port, with more than 600 oil and gas drilling rigs and platforms located within a 40-mile radius. From there the ‘Harvey Power’ will go to Shell’s platforms, such as the new Olympus production platform, bringing equipment and drilling fluids. Both the Harvey Energy and Harvey Power vessels will meet the stringent requirements of the ABS “ENVIRO+, Green Passport” notation, making them the most environmentally friendly Offshore Supply Vessels in Gulf of Mexico.
