Fishing vessel aground off Amrum
In the evening of Apr 11, 2017, at 11 p.m. the "Hartje" suffered rudder damage and ran aground on the sandbar Jungnamensand one mile off the west coast of Amrum. The distressed two fishermen on board issued a mayday call after their ship got stuck in a swell of 2,5 meters and WSW winds of up to eight Beaufort. The lifeboat "Ernst Meier-Hedde" was called from its station in Hörnum and launched its daughter boat "Lotte". It managed to establish a towing connection and pulled the casualty from the sand. Despite the engine still operating, the fishermen were unable to recover their nets in the stormy conditions, and so it was complicated to get the towing wire transferred onto the lifeboat. Once the manoever was completed, the fishing vessel was pulled towards calmer waters off Hörnum upon Sylt where the fishing gear was recovered. On Apr 12 at 1.30 a.m. the "Hartje" was towed into the port of Hörnum, and at 3.10 a.m. the "Ernst Meier-Hedde" was back at its station.
