Bukcarrier detained for forging of documents in connection with corona virus
The 'Harmony Six', following its arrival at the port of Poro Point, La Union, was detained by the Philippines Coast Guard (PCG) on Feb 23, 2020. The reason for the detention, was the alleged forging of documents about the date of departure from its last port of call, Changzhou. The master of the vessel had allegedly declared different dates of arrival and departure in order to fit into the 14-day quarantine period being strictly implemented in all major ports in the country, as a security measure against coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The documents declared that the vessel had departed Changzhou on Feb 10. However, an investigation conducted by the PCG and the National Coast Watch Center showed that the vessel arrived in Changzhou, China on Feb 13 and left on Feb 18 bound for Poro Point in La Union. The PCG also disclosed that the vessel's AIS was allegedly turned off from Feb 19 until its arrival in Philippines waters on Feb 23. The vessel's AIS was switched off from Feb 19 aat 08.23 a.m. until eb 19 at 09.46 a.m. The captain of the vessel informed the authorities the system was turned off because it was providing inaccurate information. The 'Harmony Six' sailed from Poro (Luzon), on Feb 29 at 10.50 p.m. bound to Davao, ETA March 4.
