Heavy lift vessel seized after cocaine was found in yacht on board

Tue Nov 17 12:21:49 CET 2020 Timsen

Mexican authorities have detained the 'Happy Dover' after its arrival in Ensenada on Nov 12, 2020, following the discovery of cocaine hidden aboard one of the sailboats the vessel was transporting and offloaded in Mexico. An investigation was ongoing into the circumstances. The ship had completed offloading the catamaran sailboat 'Quest'. During a search of the sailboat, the Mexican authorities discovered 200 kilos of cocaine hidden aboard the boat. It has an estimated street value of nearly $3 million. The 'Happy Dover' had arrived in Ensenada after a call in Costa Rica. The ship had made a transit of the Panama Canal with previous stops in the Bahamas. The next port of call was scheduled to be Long Beach, and the ship’s operators reported that it was scheduled to continue on a Pacific crossing bound for Tahiti and Fiji. In addition to the catamaran which had been offloaded, the vessel was carrying several other large pleasure crafts. The Mexican Navy and the Attorney General’s office were involved in the search of the catamaran. They questioned the 18-member crew aboard the lift vessel. The ship’s operatorwas uncertain how long the lift ship would be detained in Mexico, but did not believe that the ship or its crew were involved in the smuggling. They did not report where the catamaran had been loaded. The investigation hopes to discover the details of the current plan and where the catamaran was headed.

The 'Happy Dover' was escorted to the port entrance, where the tug took over. At 3 a.m on Oct 9, the ship was docked at the Reina Sofía dike. After the problem was fixed, the vessel left Las Palmas again on Oct 9 at 2.30 p.m. and resumed its voyage.

Reclaimer heads to Hay Point (Queensland, Australia)

Fri Aug 11 13:12:33 CEST 2017 arnekiel

The Port of Mackay Sunday welcomed one of the mining industry’s biggest and most critical pieces of equipment — a “stacker reclaimer” bound for the nearby Port of Hay Point (Queensland, Australia). The stacker reclaimer — used to move coal from incoming trains to terminal stockpiles and then onto export ships — will be unloaded at the Port of Mackay over the next two weeks and staged for transport to BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance’s (BMA) Hay Point Coal Terminal operations, about 40km south of Mackay. North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) CEO Steve Lewis said the arrival of the equipment on the MV Happy Dover is a welcome development for the region’s ports. https://nqbp.com.au/port-of-mackay-continues-to-stack-up/
