Disabled cargo vessel towed to Averøy

In the morning of March 25 the "Hagland Captain" was under tow to Averøy in the morning after the anchor chains were cut following weather improvement. It was being pulled by the offshore tug "Boa Balder" (IMO: 9462342) and escorted by the patrol boat "Harstad" (IMO: 9312107) of the Norwegian Coastguard. The vessel berthed at hte industrial park in Kjerkevågen/Averøy at 3.30 p.m. On March 26, the class company DNVGL boarded the ship for investigations. According to what the Norwegian Maritime Directorate knows so far, the vessel did not touch bottom. It was found out that a breaking wave caused water to came into an air intake that sprayed up and hit an electric panel. This led to a short circuit which put the diesel out of order. The surveillance aircraft LN-KYV was sent to the area at Trondheimsleia where the cargo loss of about 300 logs had occurred. No observations were made. Cargo ship in distress

The "Hagland Captain" sent a mayday near Hustadvika off the Romsdal coast. Two rescue helicopters were on their way to thevessel on March 23, 2019, at 7.40 p.m. to assist the casualty. It was considered to evacuate the nine crew members on board. The cargo ship was fighting the big waves in the area. As the wind was turning west in the area tonight this could lead to greater problems for the ship. The "Hagland Captain" had suffered an eingine failure at 7 p.m. and lost part of the timber load overboard. The ship had sailed from Karlskrona on March 15 bound to Skogn. The crew finally had to jump into the sea to be rescued by helicopters deployed from the SAR mission at the cruise shp "Viking Sky". All were recovered and flown to shore. The shi was at anchor in pos. 63° 0.21' N 007° 8.01' E in the morning of March 24 with a heavy list to port. Wärtsilä to deliver world’s first hybrid retrofit for short-sea shipping vessel

The technology group Wärtsilä has signed an agreement with the international shipping company Hagland Shipping AS for a hybrid retrofit installation, the company said in its release. The project will take place onboard the ‘Hagland Captain’, a general cargo vessel owned by Hagland Shipping. It will be the first project of its kind ever in short-sea shipping applications. The agreement was signed in December 2018.
