Fishing vessel back at work after distress alert

Thu Nov 07 10:59:54 CET 2013 Timsen

The Lerwick lifeboat has been launched and the Shetland coastguard rescue helicopter scrambled to assist the "Audacious - BF 83" which was taking in water 30 miles south east of Sumburgh on Oct 7, 2013. The crew of the ship issued a Mayday alert at 6.40 a.m. The incident was caused by a burst pipe on the vessel but was fixed soon after. By 8.25 a.m. the crew had managed to effect repairs and were heading back to the fishing grounds, while the rescue craft returned to base. The former "Audacious", a 440--tons-ship of 30 metres length, was in trouble on Aug 10, 2012, when the vessel sank 40 miles off Aberdeen. The crew of six made it to life-rafts before being rescued. Two helicopters, one from RAF Lossiemouth and another from a Danish Warship, which was on exercise in the area, were initially sent to the scene by the Coastguard. The new vessel was previously known as "Nordfjord" and was registered in Peterhead until it was renamed recently.
