Fishing vessel assisted disabled yacht

Wed Jul 06 14:06:05 CEST 2016 Timsen

On July 5, 2016, the "Pieter van Aris" assisted a disabled Dutch yacht at Scheurrak and alerted the KNRM in Oudeschild and Den Helder around 4 p.m. The 8-m-boat had suffered a broken mast enroute from Den Oever to Vlieland bin 7-8 Beaufort wind strength. The "Pieter van Aris" took the yacht in tow at the Doove Balg 2-buoy and held the bow against the wind until the lifeboat "Cornelis Dito" arrived from Oudeschild and dropped off crew members to secure the mast, before the "Joke Dijkstra" took the tow over from the fishing vessel. One crew member of the yacht was treated for slight hypothermia. The boat was towed towards Oudeschild in wave heights of 1,5 meters, arriving there around 7 p.m. Dutch report with photos: https://www.knrm.nl/nieuws/knrm-reddingstation-texel-oudeschild/knrm-texel-en-den-helder-helpen-zeiljacht-met-gebroken-mast

Disabled cutter towed to Texel

Wed May 06 10:53:18 CEST 2015 Timsen

Having just arrived from Harlingen, the lifeboat "Dorus Rijkers" jointly with the "Koen Oberman" from Callantsoog was called to assist the "Pieter Van Aris - TX 21" on May 5, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. The ship had suffered steering problems near the boat house of Callantsoog. The "Koen Oberman" was quickly on the spot. The wind was pretty rough in the Schulpengat with wave heights of at least three metres, slowing down the approaching "Dorus Rijkers". The propulsion and the bow thruster of the cutter fortunately were still working, enabling the skipper to keep his ship in safe water, with the "Koen Oberman" in the proximity. Both lifeboats escorted the cutter to Oudeschild on Texel via the Schulpengat. In sheltered waters the "Dorus Rijkers" took the "Pieter Van Aris" in tow, and it was safely moored at the fish auction house. Trawler stuck on dam

Mon Oct 17 16:08:09 CEST 2011 Timsen

On October 11, 2011, the "Pieter van Aris" got in trouble in the Wadden Sea at Kornwerder Sand after a cable snapped which was used to control the booms of the fishing gear. The ship got out of control and ran aground on a stone dam off Damen The crew alerted the Dutch Coast Guard about 6.30 a.m., then the KNRM lifeboat station in Harlingen was alarmed. The lifeboat "Dorus Rijkers", serving as a temporary replacement for the "Arie Visser" at the station Terschelling, was near the spot and connected to the casualty. The first attempt to pull the ship off failed because of the strong currents near the dam. The crew was forced to cut the towing hawser. Meanwhile the lifeboats "Wiecher", "Jap Visser-Politiek" and "Veronica" also arrived. The "Wiecher" jointly with the "Dorus Rijkers" re-established a towing connection, and the f/v finally could be freed. The ship had suffered considerable damage but was able to sail to Oudeschild with own power. A part of the gear had to be left behind. At 08:30 a.m. all lifeboats returned to their respective stations. Dutch report with photo: http://www.knrm.nl/service/reddingrapporten/?contentID=68ACADB5
