Medevac off Kochi
The Indian Coast Guards of Kerala and Mahe medevaced an ailing crew member from the 'Grand Neptune', en route from Yantai to Suez, off Kochi on March 23, 2022. The 61-year-old mariner John A Jimenez was taken off at 3.30 p.m. after the vessel raised medical distress at 8.30 a.m. The patient was critical, requiring immediate hospitalisation. The 'Grand Neptune' was directed to approach Kochi harbour to reduce response time. The MRSC Kochi liaised with agencies such as Customs, Immigration, Health Department and port control for necessary clearance. At 4.30 p.m. the vessel arrived off Kochi harbour anchorage, and adhering to all COVID-19 Protocol and safety standards, the patient was safely transferred to the tug 'Ocean Pioneer'. He was later shifted to Renai Medicity Hospital in Kochi.
