Scalloper immobilzed off Fishguard

Tue Nov 05 10:18:10 CET 2013 Timsen

The Fishguard RNLI's all-weather lifeboat launched very early on Nov 1, 2013, to assist the "Golden Promise" which was immobilised 15 miles north of Fishguard. The scalloper had a rope around its propellor and was initially taken under tow by another scalloper in the vicinity. When its tow rope snapped, a call for assistance was made through HM Coastguard and the Fishguard all-weather lifeboat, with six volunteer crew, launched shortly after 4 a.m. By 5 a.m., the lifeboat had arrived on scene and taken the scalloper under tow back to Fishguard harbour arriving alongside the quay at 8 a.m.

Crew winched up after grounding

Wed Sep 07 09:46:02 CEST 2011 Timsen

The "Golden Promise" ran aground off the Island of Stromma in the Pentland Firth early morning of Sep 6, 2011 with five crew aboard. The Aberdeen Coastguard received a mayday on channel 16 at 4:55 a.m. from the skipper of the Oban registered vessel, informing them they had run hard aground. The Rescue Helicopter 137 from RAF Lossiemouth was scrambled and the Longhope and Thurso all weather RNLI lifeboats were requested to launch. The crew of the "Golden Promise" were all wearing their lifejackets and initially going to transfer to the liferaft, with the weather conditions on scene westerly winds force 3 – 4 and an easterly tidal stream. The safest course of action was to stay on board the vessel and be winched to safety by the rescue helicopter. All five crew have now been safely air lifted and are being taken to RAF Lossiemouth, where they will be met by local Coastguard Rescue Officers.
