Towed to safety after steering failure, East China sea
Chemical tanker Bandai V issued distress signal at 22:50 LT July 31 2012 in position 25 nm east of Shengshan, Zhejiang, East China sea. Vessel suffered steering gear failure while encountering stormy weather, and asked immediate assistance. The tug sent by Chinese Rescue authorities was at the scene at 04:45 August 1, it took more than an hour to attach a towline, towage started at around 06:00 heading for Ningbo. Because of approaching typhoon Saola one more tug was sent to speed up the operation. At around 14:00 August 1 vessel was anchored at Ningbo Anchorage. Maritime Bulletin http://www.odin.tc
16 sailors saved from tanker Bandai V after engine malfunction off Shanghai
SIXTEEN foreign sailors on a Panama-flagged cargo ship have been saved after the ship broke down on the East China Sea near Shanghai, rescue team said today. The ship, BANDAI V, reported steering engine malfunction at about 10:49pm yesterday, August 1, 2012. The rescue team, based at the mouth of Yangtze River, arrived and towed the stranded ship away this morning, according to Shanghai maritime authority. Carrying chemicals, the ship was on its way back to dodge the upcoming Typhoon Saola that are expected to slash the East China seashores later this week, rescuers said.
