Methanol tanker sent to sea because of high swell
Port Taranaki staff had to quickly get vessels out of port when a large swell hit the harbour in the night of May 6, 2013. The swell, which got to as high as 3.5 metres off the port, was in such a direction that it began to affect vessels tied up at the wharves. This caused staff to send the "Golden Chie" and the smaller rig support vessel "Pacific Parrot" out to sea as a precautionary measure to protect ships and wharves from damage. After the swell dropped again, operations were to be resumed again at daylight on May 7.
