Ruptured hose caused oil spill in Kiel
The 'Grömitz' caused an oil pollution in the naval arsenal in Kiel-Ellerbek on Feb 9, 2023, at around noon. The oil had leaked into the harbour water in the area of the repair pier. The naval fire brigade moved in and initiated the first measures. The water police sent the patrol boat "Stör" to the site and supported the measures. A burst hydraulic hose on a crane at the rear of the ship, on which an external company had carried out works before, had burst. Most of the spilled oil could be contained on the deck of the "Grömitz". The professional fire brigade was also alerted to support the work. The emergency services laid out an oil boom around the contaminated area. In addition, special equipment was placed in the water that could absorb the oil that had escaped. The response ended after one hour.
Accident during refueling
An accident during refueling of the "Grömitz" caused what was thought to be a fire on Apr 18, 2012, at 4 p.m. in the Kiel naval base. After returning from a training trip a ruptured fuel line sprayed oil over hot parts of the machinery and caused the development of dense smoke in the engine room. Two of the 40 crew members of the "Grömitz" suffered smoke inhalation. They were taken to hospital after an initial treatment by the ambulance service. Since it was initially assumed that there was a fire in the engine room of the mine hunter, the fire brigade of the Navy as well as the local fire department were alarmed. After one hour the engine room was ventilated.
