Submarine caught in trawler's net

The Portuguese submarine "Tridente" was caught in the nets of the "Daytona" on July 12, 2016, at 7.30 a.m. 55 kilometers south of Cape Lizard. The "Daytona" was fishing when the submarine, which carried out a training exercise with the British navy, became entangled in the net of the ship. The trawl was at the bottom. It was blocked and it made a loud noise. The submarine then immediately surfaced and contacted the fishing vessel. The vessel was detached and headed towards Bloscon, Roscoff at 9.42 a.m., where it arrived at 5.30 p.m. The crew of five was not injured in the incident. At the request of prosecutors in Brest, officers of the Coastguard Brest and a technician in criminal identification from the Coastguard Lorient went on site to check the damage. Later, two of the sailors who were at the helm at the time of the accident were interrogated and returned on board at 7.30 p.m. New trawls were installed at 7 p.m., and the departure of the "Daytona" was scheduled to 8 p.m. The submarine needed the help of the British Navy to get the gears off the hull which were sunk in accordance with the British Coastguard.
