Chief officer does not have to pay fine after grounding
The chief officer of the 'Fridtjof Nansen', which had suffered a damage of approximately 30 million Norwegian crowns when it ran aground off Måløy in a storm on Jan 12, 2022, had to appear in court after he refused to pay a fine of 25,000 Crowns on Feb 12, 2025. He has now been acquitted by Hordaland District Court. The police had believed that the chief mate had not followed the pilot's navigation of the ship and the plan for the voyage well enough, and that he had violated the Ship Safety Act. He did not admit guilt according to hjis lawyer Torbjørn Kolås Sognefest. Now the Hordaland District Court has concluded that the chief officer did not act negligently and thus does not have to pay the fine.
Repairs successfully completed
On Nov 28, the 'Fridtjof Nansen' returned to service for HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) after having one cruise cancelled due to a technical issue, following successful repairs by an expert team, After sailing from Ushuaia, the 'Fridtjof Nansen' is now offering a ten-night expedition cruise that includes a four-day visit to Antarctica. The vessel is set to offer a series of itineraries in the region during the 2024-25 season. The incident had not affected the safety or integrity of the vessel, and technicians were immediately deployed to resolve the issue,
Cruise cancelled due to technical issue
The upcoming cruise of the 'Fridtjof Nansen', which was scheduled to start in Ushuaia on Nov. 18 2024,, had to be cancelled due to technical issue which occurred on Nov 16, while the ship was transiting the Drake Passage. The ship continued its scheduled voyage safely and arrived in Ushuaia on Nov. 18. All passengers and crew were safe and accounted for,, and the incident has not affected the safety or integrity of the vessel. Technicians started working to resolve the issue, with additional support enroute. Passengers are set to return home on Nov. 19 on two charter flights to Buenos Aires. As a result, the upcoming cruise of the ship had to be cancelled. HX teams have been working through the weekend of Nov 16/17 to arrange onward travel for both embarking and disembarking passengers, including flights and accommodations.
