Repair may cost half a million
The repair of the "Frafjord" in a yard may cost half a million Norwegian crowns. The ship had suffered technical problems inside the port Brekstad, failed to slow down in time and allided with parts of the new speedboat dock. The ferry then ran onto the shipre at the Ørland Cultural Center. In addition to minor damage to the helm, two propellers were damaged in the collision.
Ferry ran aground at Brekstad
The "Frafjord" ran onto the shore at the ferry terminal at Brekstad in the morning of Dec 21, 2017. None of the eight passengers were injured. The operator Norled was notified of the incident at 10.06. a.m. All cars have been landed after the ship docked. There was no leakage on the ferry. Witnesses told that the ferry came in at high speed and ran into a pole standing in the sea. This may have been done omn purpose to slow the ship down before the grounding between the ferry quay and the new fast ferry landing at Brekstad. There was some damage to land facilities as the ferry ran over some large stones lying on land. The ferry then subsided into the sea again. The police was quickly on the spot. There was no suspicion of alcohol at the helm. Divers were sent down in the run of the day and found slight damage to the rudder and to two propellers which needed to be repaird in a yard. The ferry will be out of service until at least Dec 22, maybe longer. There was no replacement ferry yet.
