Yacht of Greta Thunberg in collision with unknown object
The 'Malizia 2' had a brutal collision with an unidentified object at 20 knots speed short time after its departure from New York on Sep 2. The boat was forced to divert to St. Pierre for investiations. The crew had to wait until the arrival of the ultrasounding expert to be able to check the hull on Sep 16. No structural damage has been found and the boat can shortly proceed on with it’s voyage to France and then participate in the Transat Jaques Vabre on Oct 27 from Le Havre into the Caribbean Sea. Greta Thunberg to take off from Plymouth
The 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg prepared to sail across the North Atlantic to attend a climate conference in New York. She will be travelling aboard the "Malizia 2" with no shower, toilet or privacy to take part in a United Nations summit. to avoid travelling by air. The yacht is fitted with solar panels and underwater turbines that produce electricity onboard, with the aim of making the journey zero-carbon. The boat's skipper, Boris Herrmann, said the teenage activist was facing a challenging voyage on board the yacht which was due to leave Plymouth on Aug 14, 2019, if weather permits.
