FORTH GUARDSMAN 8301345
The crewman of the "Forth Guardsman" has died after being crushed while working on his vessel then falling overboard. The Polish national was working on the ship which was laying cables for Scottish and Southern Energy in the Sound of Jura. Strathclyde Police launched a joint investigation with the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). Clyde Coastguard had sent a Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannet shore station at Prestwick, the Port Askaig lifeboat and the Port Charlotte Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene. Two other vessels that were nearby also went to help. Emergency procedures swung into action and he was out of the water within 10 minutes. The man was recovered at 8.13 p.m. before being winched into the helicopter. He died of his injuries after 9 p.m. last night. Work has been suspended whilst an investigation continues. The vessel is currently berthed at Port Askaig, Islay.

13th March 2011- Crew member from Forth Guardsman falls overboard. A crew member has been airlifted to hospital after falling overboard from a landing craft off the Sound of Jura. The man, from the Forth Guardsman, was anchoring the vessel when he fell and got trapped between the anchor cable and the craft at about 1930 GMT. He was recovered by the vessel's rescue boat, transferred to a lifeboat and airlifted by the helicopter to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Clyde Coastguard was unable to confirm the extent of his injuries. Coastguard watch manager Tarik Yassin said: "The crew member had been assisting with anchoring the vessel just south of the Sound of Jura when he fell overboard." A rescue helicopter from HMS Gannet, the Islay Lifeboat and the Port Charlotte Coastguard rescue team went to the scene.
