Cargo ship suffered two engine blackouts and one collision
The "BBS Sand" was in collision with the buoy 41 on the Ems on June 30, 2012, around 5 p.m. whilst coming from Klaipeda. The ship pulled the ton into the middle of the fairway before the Russian master got the ship emergency anchored and the propulsion was cleared. When the ship was clear to sail again it entered the port of Emden with tug assistance, where the police launched an investigation after the ship berthed at the Zungen Quay at 9.30 p.m. The police found out that the ship had already suffered an engine failure in the early morning after having passed the Brunsbuettel locks of the Kiel Canal around midnight. Some hours later a second blackout occurred which caused the collision. The ship was detained until the cause of the blackouts has been found out and the ship is cleared to sail. The buoy layer ""Gustav Meyer" of the Emden Shipping Authority was meanwhile called to pull the buoy 41 back on its position.
