Ferry service to be suspended again
The service of the 'Floating Bridge 6 between Cowes and East Cowes across the River Medina will have to be suspended in order to undergo maintenance work on Nov 20, 2024, due to necessary repairs. The ferry will be out of action between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Ferry suspended due to cable wear and tear
The service of the 'Cowes Floating Bridge 6' across the River Medina has been suspended on the morning of Nov 6 due to a cable that needed replacing. Usual operational wear and tear’ meant that a cable needed to be urgently replaced, resulting in a suspension of service until the engineers had fixed the problem. Contractors arrived on site at 09:00 a.m. A launch service between East Cowes and Cowes was put in operation for foot passengers and cyclists at this time.
Ferry service suspended again
The 'Floating Bridge No.6', operating between Cowes to East Cowes, Isle of Wight, has been taken out of service following a technical fault, on Nov 7. The vessel was currently stuck on the Cowes side of the River Medina, which meant motorists were having to face the now-usual 10-mile diversion via Newport. The Isle of Wight (IOW) Council has confirmed that the ferry service was suspeded to allow engineers to inspect a prow hinge. The prow hinge broke and had come crashing down. The floating bridge will remain out of service until at least Nov 9. It has been confirmed that a hydraulic ram on the vessel developed a fault which meant that the prow could not be lifted, despite the hydraulic system having a complete overhaul earlier this year.
