On Feb 25, 2025, the Rostock Water Police Inspectorate (WSPI) was informed at around 2:00 p.m. that an accident had occurred on the 'Finn III', which was docked at berth 44 in Rostock's overseas port. At around 1:15 p.m., a worker, who was on board the ship during loading operations, fell through an opening from the tween deck into a cargo hold of the vessel. As a result of this fall from a height of around six meters, the man sustained life-threatening injuries and initially lay motionless. Until a rescue team arrived, the crew members provided first aid and immediately began an independent rescue using a crane. He had suffered several fractures and a skull injury. His health was critical at the time. The 58-year-old German from the Rostock district was immediately taken to the Rostock University hospital by the emergency services. An emergency operation was performed immediately after the man arrived at the hospital, and he was then taken to the intensive care unit. The Rostock Water Police took up the matter together with the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus) . The Rostock public prosecutor's office was also informed. Evidence pointing to a criminal offense was ruled out so far. The ship remained stationary in port as of Feb 27.
