Seized ship released
THe 'Mabrooka' was released on Dec 11 and headed to its port of destination Misrata. Haftar’s forces detained the vessel and its 17 crew members, including nine Turkish citizens, on Dec. 5 claiming they did not comply with instructions. On Dec. 8, Ahmed Al-Mismari, Haftar’s spokesman, said that the ship ad entered a prohibited area, did not respond to calls, and was taken to the port of Ras al-Hilal. The ship was "investigated and inspected because it violated maritime rules and laws”. It was loaded with medicines to be taken to Misrata.
Turkey condemned seizure
Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) have accused Turkey of continuing to supply the GNA with arms and fighters. Its forces seized the 'Mabrooka' in the Mediterranean. The Turkish foreign ministry on Dec 8 condemned the seizure of the ship by Libya's eastern-based forces. The Turkish foreign minister called for immediate steps to enable the ship resume its planned journey.Commander Khalifa Haftar's Libyan National Army (LNA) said they intercepted the Jamaica-flagged ship as it headed to the port of Misrata. It had entered a prohibited area and its crew did not respond to a call from the Libyan navy. It was then towed to the Raas al-Hilal port. The ship and its crew were under investigation for violating maritime regulations and laws.
Freighter captured off Libya
On Dec 8 the 'Mabrooka' was captured by militias under the Libyan general Chalifa Haftar and taken to the port of Ras al-Hilal because the captain did not answer the call. The ship had a crew of nin Turks, seven Indians and one Azerbaijani on board and was destined for Misrata with medicines. The ship was being investigated and inspected for violating maritime rules and laws.
