Medevac near Ambrose Channel

Fri Sep 14 09:21:33 CEST 2018 Timsen

US Coast Guard crews medically evacuated a 78-year-old man suffering from chest pains from the "Evrotas" near Ambrose Channel, New Jersey, on Sep 12, 2018. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector New York command center received notification at approximately 9:30 p.m., stating a crewmember needed medical attention aboard the tanker. A conference call between the Coast Guard flight surgeon and the ship’s doctor determined that a Station Sandy Hook rescue crew was the best option for an evacuation. At approximately 12:15 a.m., the 47-foot Motor lifeboat rescue crew and emergency medical technicians from the National Park Service arrived on scene, transferred the man, and transported him to awaiting EMS at Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook for transfer to Monmouth County Medical Center. The man’s current medical condition was stable.

Medevac in tricky conditions

Tue May 08 11:27:48 CEST 2012 Timsen

The Kirkwall Lifeboat "Margaret Foster" was called on May 4, 2012, at 8.57 p.m. to bring ashore a sick crewman from the "Evrotas" which was on passage from Norway to New York and was to the east of Orkney. The lifeboat departed Kirkwall at 9.22 p.m. with the station’s RNLI Lifeboat Medical Advisor on board. The lifeboat met with the tanker approximately 30 miles east of Stronsay at 10.31 p.m. The sea was quite rough with spray blowing right over the deck as the vessel made a shelter from the seas with the wind on her side. The lifeboat was rising and falling ten feet at times which made the transfer tricky. The casualty was transferred by pilot ladder and then medicvally checked . The lifeboat departed for Kirkwall at 10.48 p.m. and arrived back at station at 12.15 a.m. where an ambulance was waiting to take the man to Balfour hospital.
