Generator caused small oil spill
A fuel spill next to the "Nautilus" at Ogden Point breakwater in the morning of Feb 1, 2016, has been contained. The ship has been moored at Ogden Point for the last few months. The spill was reported to B.C.’s Environmental Emergencies line shortly after 9:30 a.m. A leak from thepower generator on the dock had released a quantity of fuel oil onto the side of the quay and into the water. The amount was reported as small and boomed. Pads were put out immediately to contain the spill, but proved to be inadequate, allowing some fuel to escape. A responder estimated the spill at 10 to 20 litres. Ministry staff contacted the vessel’s representative, who in turn activated the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation to contain the spill Report with photo: http://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/ship-s-generator-leaks-fuel-at-ogden-point-1.2163261#sthash.esoYfvY4.dpuf
Exploration vessel Nautilus explores German U-boat sunk in Gulf of Mexico
The U-Boat identification is part of the mission of the Nautilus' crew, led by Robert Ballard, world famous for discovering the Titanic, among other wrecks. Arguably the expedition's most exciting moments for history buffs came when the crew probed the wreckage of German U-boat U-166 -- the only known U-boat sunk in the Gulf of Mexico -- as well as several of the U-boat's targets, such as the SS Gulf Penn and SS Robert E. Lee. Read more here: http://www.sunherald.com/2014/07/15/5700150/exploration-vessel-explores-german.html#storylink=cpy
