Transmission block removed from cargo hold
On Aug 22 the 154-ton-engine block was removed fromthe cargo hold of the "Eufraat". The company Filtratec started to pump out the hold in the afternoon. Before the fire rescue from Voerde had set a deadline for the salvage work as the insurances and lawyers of involved parties continued discussing the repsonsibility while the fire bridades were steadily on scene since Aug 20. The fire rescue from Voerde and Wesel and the Technical Support Work (THW) got supplied the by local Red Cross during these days. The sihp was thought to have become a total loss in the accident. Dewatering of Eufraat continued
On Aug 22 repairs were on at the harbour crane in Emmelsum so that it could lift the engine block from the cargo hold of the "Eufraat" while effort were on to stop the water ingress with a leak sail under the bottom. The fire brigades from Voerde, Möllen, Friedrichsfeld and Spellen as well as the fire boat from Wesel and the Tecchnical Support Team of the THW remained on scene and tried to keep the vessel from sinking by constantly pumping water out. An oil boom was laid out around the ship.
No salvage before crane is repaired
On Aug 21 technicians were busy repairing the damaged crane from which an engine part fell into the cargo hold of the "Eufraat". Only once repairs were completed, an attempt could be started to remove the part from the cargo hold. Meanwhile it was tried to pull a sail underneath the hull to stop the ongoing water ingress.
