Esvagt Aurora praised for fire fighing in Hammerfest

Thu Oct 08 13:48:48 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Esvagt Aurora' extinguished a fire in the Melkøya Gas Production Plant at Hammerfest which had broken out in a turbine on Sep 28, 2020. The Melkøya plant receives and processes natural gas from the Snøhvit field and converts it into liquefied natural gas (LNG), and a rapid shutdown was crucial to avert a potential escalation of the situation. The ‘Esvagt Aurora’ was just on its way out of Hammerfest port, and the ship's crew could react immediately after receiving the emergency call at 4.35 p.m., and 10 minutes later the ship was in position and ready to send water over the facility. 'Esvagt Aurora' is equipped with two advanced and powerful FiFi cannons, capable of shooting 2 x 60,000 liters of water per minute at a distance of 180 meters and at a height of 110 meters. The ship has the advantage of having FiFi cannons in the bow, where the ship's echo sounder is also located. This made it possible to get the 'Esvagt Aurora' quite close to the plant. The ship assisted for about five hours. Shortly before midnight, Equinor, which owns the plant, reported the situation under full control and the fire was extinguished, after which the ‘Esvagt Aurora’ could sail out to its permanent mooring at the Vår Energi’s Goliat-FPSO.

Maersk Sells Stake in Offshore Oil Services Company Esvagt

Thu Jul 09 09:27:18 CEST 2015 arnekiel

A.P. Møller-Mærsk A/S has sold its majority stake in Esvagt, a shipping company that operates offshore service and rescue vessels, to two infrastructure investment firms from the U.K. and Australia, for $610 million. The deal is the latest in a series of divestments made by the Danish conglomerate in order to focus on its core businesses of container shipping and oil exploration. The company has sold off assets worth billions of dollars over the last few years, including tankers that carry liquefied natural gas and a large stake in the lender Danske Bank. Maersk has also invested in oil-drilling equipment, marine terminals and mega-container ships. ESVAGT, founded in 1981, owns a fleet of 43 vessels that provide emergency response services for offshore oil rigs, help clean up oil spills, and assist in moving rigs, tankers and workers to and from offshore oil projects. Maersk accumulated a 75% stake in the company in the 1990s. The buyers were 3i Infrastructure Plc, a British firm that invests in energy projects across Europe, and AMP Capital, an Australian infrastructure investment fund with $124 billion in assets under management. Fri Aug 03 09:13:18 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Astilleros Zamakona has delivered the ‘Esvagt Aurora’ to Esvagt, a company in the Danish multinational A.P. Møller-Mærsk group, The Motorship reports. This is the third vessel the Bilbao based shipyard has built for this client. Esvagt Aurora is 87m long, 17m wide and has 9,240kW of diesel-electric power. It features the characteristic Ulstein design X-bow. The vessel is designed to perform high sea towage tasks, and is fitted with a duplex DP system for position-keeping in adverse climate conditions with hurricane-force winds and rough seas, enabling continuous operation of deep-sea ROVs.
