Platform to be dismantled 20 months after accident with tanker
After having been severely damaged by the "Elsa Essberger", on Dec 31, 2017, off Den Helder, the unmanned gas platform "Unocal Q1" will be scrapped on site. The operator Petrogas E &P Netherlands tasked the DEME daughter GeoSea with the work to dismantle the installation 20 miles off the coast. The just delivered liftship "Apollo" (IMO: 9769764) will carry out the job. Two of the four legs of the "Unical Q1" had been bent when the tanker slammed into it.
Repairs of collision damage completed
The "Elsa Essberger" which was under repair at Soby since Jan 23, left the Søby Værft A/S again on March 20 at 4.15 p.m. and headed to Rotterdam where it arrived on March 23 and proceeded to Teesport on March 25. As it is forbidden to sail within a distance of 500 meters from the installations operated by the Q1 the captain and first officer of the "Elsa Essberger" faced prosecutions. The two officers from Poland have been arrested and questioned after the accident. The case is coming to the court in Amsterdam on April 20th.
