Contract for ferry terminated
The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) has terminated the contract for the "Ocean Flower 2" late on Aug 8, 2017, after the supplier of the vessel failed to meet the delivery date within the extension period laid out in the contract. The Port Authority's legal team recommended that the contract be terminated on that basis to rule out any legal repercussions. Tenders will go out for a new vessel. Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan assured that the termination of the contract would not affect the servicing of the inter-island sea bridge as the three vessels currently in use – the "T&T Spirit", "T&T Express" and the "Cabo Star" were under passenger capacity. The vessel was originally expected to arrive July 17, then July 26 as per the extension granted. The Port Authority has been working to secure a new passenger ferry to service the inter-island sea bridge since the "Superfast Galicia" was pulled from local service earlier this year.
GPS failure caused delay
The "Orange 1" suffered a GPS failure in the evening of Sep 6, 201, while en route from Jejudo island to a mainland port, and had to wait until CG boats took the lead. The rrival at Maukpo was delayed thus. The ship had on board 278 passengers.
