Eiltank adrift after blackout

The "Eiltank 27" suffered engine failure on the Rhine on Feb 17, 2012, at 8.30 p.m. The fire rescue Duesseldorf sent the "Feuerlöschboot II". Both engines had failed near the Neuss harbour approach. The ship had been heading upstream, when the ship got entangled with a fairway buoy during an anchor manoever, thus causing the blackout. Also the bow thrusters did not work, and the ship which was carrying 1700 tons diesel fuel was in danger of drifting aground. The "Eiltank 21" was first on scene and took the tanker alongside. Then police and fire rescue were called. They were able to moor the ship near the railway bridge at Hamm at a tanker pier on the right river shore. The buoy was repositioned after the accident. In the run of the evening the "Eiltank 27" was towed into the port of Neuss where divers surveyed the propeller which was thought to have caused the blackout.
