Fire off Portsmouth

Tue May 17 10:14:51 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'EGS Echo', 20 gt, en route from Gosport to Portsmouth, UK with two crew members on board, suffered an engine turbo fire in position 50 47 33 N, 001 06 29 W, off Portsmouth on May 14, 2022, at around 7 a.m. The Hampshire fire service attended and extinguished the fire and deemed the vessel safe. The vessel started sailing on the second engine at 8.50 a.m. headed to the Haslar Marina.

Survey ship suffered fire

Wed Mar 06 12:06:34 CET 2019 Timsen

The Filey RNLI and a rescue helicopter have responded to a mayday call from the "Lia" on March 5, 2019, just before 7 p.m. about two miles north of Filey Brigg. The survey vessel had to declare a major emergency after an engine room fire. Within a short time, the ALB had arrived, and it was decided that five people from the survey team should be evacuated from the ship to the lifeboat whilst two crew members should remain on board. The Rescue Helicopter 912 hovered over the scene just in case the vessel's crew had to abandon ship. The Filey ALB took the vessel under tow to Scarborough Harbour where it was successfully handed over to Filey and Scarborough Coastguard Rescue Teams and to North Yorkshire Fire Service. Crews used a thermal imaging camera to confirm that there was no further fire or residual heat. The lifeboat returned to Filey at around 10.30 p.m. Reports with photos: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2019/march/05/filey-rnli-called-to-vessel-with-engine-room-fire https://www.yorkshirecoastradio.com/news/local-news/2821260/filey-rnli-respond-to-mayday-call-from-ship/ https://www.whitbygazette.co.uk/news/transport/filey-lifeboat-rescue-five-people-from-boat-with-engine-room-fire-1-9632072
