Cruise ship skips call at Amsterdam after repeated blockages of IJmuiden lock by activists
The 'Disney Dream', which was supposed to call at Amsterdam on Sep 6, will be sailing past the port. The shipping company Disney Cruise Line feared that it would not be able to dock in Amsterdam 'due to problems with access to the port'. In recent weeks, activists from Extinction Rebellion have blocked the lock at IJmuiden in protest against cruise ships. Disney Cruise Line informed travelers about the adjusted travel schedule. In an email, the shipping company spoke of 'problems beyond our control', As compensation, the shipping company offered travelers a credit of 250 Dollars to spend on board. The ship, which departs from Southampton non Spe 1, will sail via Hamburg to Zeebrugge, where it will now stay for two days instead of one. Disney has not confirmed that the ship is avoiding Amsterdam because of actions by XR. The sea lock at IJmuiden was last blocked on Aug 24. The protesters stood or had chained themselves to the lock, in order to prevent a cruise ship from entering from the sea. Shipping traffic that had to go through the lock was delayed for about two to three hours. By early evening, the lock was open to shipping again.
Cruise ship rescued man struggling in the water off Cuba
The 'Disney Dream' rescued a man in the water off the coast of Cuba in the Caribbean on Jan 4, 2023. The man was spotted struggling in the water with a surfboard, and the ship had to divert course to investigate while sailing between the cruise line’s private island of Castaway Cay in the Bahamas and Cozumel. The crew launched a tender boat, and the 29-year-old male was safely pulled aboard and brought to the cruise ship. The Cuban Coast Guard later picked up the man from the 'Disney cruise', and he was taken back to the mainland. The 'Disney Dream' was sailing a five-night Caribbean itinerary that departed Miami on Jan 2. The ship is scheduled to arrive in Cozumel on Jan 5. The Cuban authorities also discovered an abandoned makeshift barge or boat, which the man in question may or may not have come from. Medevac in Brest
On Sep 20, 2020, in the harbour of Brest, the CROSS Corsen coordinated the medical evacuation of a technician from the "Disney Dream" at the CIB Brest Shipyard. A Dragon 29 Civil Security helicopter dropped off a medical team from the army health service at 1 p.m. Then it transported the technician, injured at the legs, to the regional university hospital of Brest, where he was taken care of at 2:40 p.m.
