Salvage in final stage
On Sep 5 the final stage of the operation to lift and tow the 'Delfi' started in Odesa. The operation includes pumping water out of tanks, testing water flow, moving the tanker to depth water, installing cables and devices for strapping the tanker between the DM barge and the 'Atlas-4' floating crane, confirming the possibility of crossing from the water area and the actual crossing.
Criminal proceeding against Mister Drake PC company
The economic court of the Odesa region opened a criminal proceeding against the Mister Drake PC company, which owns the 'Delfi'. This was mentioned in the court's decision issued on Sep 1. State enterprise Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine filed the lawsuit against the company. It said it took the damage equal to the amount of 85,000 U.S. dollars. The administration of ports asked the court to charge this sum from the defendant. In November 2019, the Mister Drake PC claimed it owned the vessel and provided the documents that confirmed it was its property. Then, the Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine asked Mister Drake PC to pay for the operation to liquidate the consequences of the vessel's sinking, but nothing followed. On Aug 14, the Administration turned to the court, asking to charge the money from the owner company, and then asked to arrest the vessel, so that the future decision could be adhered by.
Large hole in starboard side needs sealing
After the 'Delfi' was put on even keel, it was found that a huge hole has opened up in the starboard side of the tanker, which needed to be sealed before the recovery can be continued. Divers have begun to survey the starboard side. Next, an action plan will be drawn up to patch the holes and seal the compartments.
