Rig idled due to Covid-19 pandemic
On May 19, 2020, it became knwon that Odfjell Drilling and Total South Africa have agreed that the 'Deepsea Stavanger' will remain idle in Norway for a period prior to the mobilisation of the rig, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Odfjell Drilling will be compensated by Total during this idle time. Once the idle period is complete, the rig will mobilise to South Africa to commence its charter as planned. The idle agreement is a reflection of both parties’ commitment to proceed with the South Africa drilling programme. The rig was being moored in Hanoytangen since May 17.
Odfjell Drilling sends rig to Semco for modifications prior to Total contract
Odfjell Drilling and Semco Maritime have signed a contract for preparation and modification of semi-submersible rig Deepsea Stavanger prior to the commencement of a nine-month drilling campaign for Total. The rig will complete a high docking in Semco Maritime’s yard at Hanøytangen, in the first quarter of 2020, before being mobilised to South Africa. The scope of the project includes upgrading of the rig’s hull and mooring system as well as installation of purpose-built equipment for the contract with Total off South Africa.
Odfjell Drilling Signs Contract with Aker BP
Odfjell Drilling signed a contract with Aker BP ASA for Deepsea Stavanger (6th generation semi-submersible) for a period of approximately 9 months with commencement in February 2018 and completion around October 2018. The contract is for exploration and development drilling at various locations in the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea. The contract will follow from the estimated completion of the Wintershall Maria contract and continue until the Deepsea Stavanger is due to mobilise to South Africa to complete one well for Total.
