Sail training ship to stop operating due to a lack of money

Wed Nov 29 10:26:43 CET 2023 Timsen

After 90 years on the seven seas, the 'Danmark' will have to stop sailing due to a lack of money to operate the ship, according to the ship's North Jutland owner. The ship has been training sailors for almost 100 years. The ship is based in Frederikshavn, where the maritime educational institution Martec is responsible for the operation.

Ship's assistant fell from mast and died

Thu Feb 17 09:51:17 CET 2022 Timsen

On Feb 15, 2022, a 23-year-old ship's assistant was killed while preparing the 'Dnamark' for the call at a shipyard. The young man fell down 20 meters from a mast in the port of Assens. He was part of the training ship's permanent crew of 15. He was taken to Odense University Hospital after the fall, but his life could not be saved. The crew is normally connected to safety lines when working at height, but the line was briefly disconnected when moving from place to place. The Funen Police, the Danish Working Environment Authority and the Danish Maritime Authority started investigating the accident in Assens, where the school ship will be at the shipyard for the next seven weeks. The crew received crisis assistance after the accident. There were no students on board the ship when the accident happened.

All students and crew tested negative

Sun Aug 16 13:42:15 CEST 2020 Timsen

All crew of the 'Danmark' have now tested COVID-19 negative, including the person who was previously found positive. All students with two negative tests were currently embarking on the ship and can thus complete their training on board. All students and crew members were placed in self-isolation on August 7 to prevent and contain any spread of infection after a student was found COVID-19 positive. The National Board of Health's recommendations regarding prevention and containment of the spread of COVID-19 has been followed all the way. Special COVID-19 guidelines have been prepared for everyday life on board the ship, including a special COVID-19 contingency for the ship, in addition to the general emergency preparedness. The sailing plans for the ship were continuously adjusted in accordance with the authorities' travel instructions. The ship will sail in nearby waters the forthcoming time.
