Damaged tanker towed to Singapore
After the fire aboard the 'Hoyu' off Singapore, SMIT Salvage responded with long standing partners Nippon Salvage by deploying the tugs 'Boka Alpine' (IMO: 9344784) and 'KST Success' (IMO: 9568304) as well as a 15 men strong fire-fighting/salvage team with specialised equipment. After the fire was brought under control, an assessment was carried out and further actions were taken. Once the vessel deemed safe, it was towed by the 'Boka Alpine' to Singapore where the convoy arrived on Nov 12.
Tanker on fire off Pedra Branca
On Nov 7, 2019, a fire broke out in the superstructure of the 'Hoyu' 9.7 miles northeast from Pedra Branca in pos. 01'25.30' N 104'32.48 E near the Horsburgh Lighthouse in the Eastern Singapore Strait. The ship fully loaded a cargo of oil products on board was en route from Singapore to Jasaan. The fire engulfed the wheelhouse, and the crew of 18 was evacuated. The Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Police Coast Guard and the Republic of Singapore Navy deployed vessels to assist to provide assistance, and the fire was subsequently extinguished. The Port Authority of Singapore launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. There were no reports of injury or pollution and shipping traffic was unaffected.
