Grounded laker freed

Wed Nov 20 22:26:17 CET 2013 Timsen

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Toledo, Station Marblehead, Ohio, along with the crew of the "CSL Niagara" and Lloyds Register, safely refloated the grounded vessel near Sandusky, Ohio, in the night of Nov 20. Increased water levels and favorable wind conditions allowed the vessel to be freed with the assistance of three tugs contracted by V. Ships Canada. Once the "CSL Niagara" was freed, a surveyor from Lloyd’s Register confirmed a test of all navigation and propulsion equipment as well as verifying no damage to the hull. No pollution was reported. The Coast Guard investigation into the incident was ongoing.
