Container ship assisted disabled fishing vessel

Tue Oct 22 21:31:21 CEST 2019 Timsen

On Oct 18, 2019, the 'Cosco Hope' enroute from Charleston to the Suez Canal assisted the American f/v 'Morgan Lea' (112 gt, built 1979) which had been disabled 90 nautical miles southeast of Georgetown, South Carolina, in the morning hours. After the crew of four notified the U.S. Coast Guard, the 'Cosco Hope' reported that it had located the 'Morgan Lea' which had suffered an engine failure and was in need of assistance. An Air Station Elizabeth City HC-130J Hercules aircrew was launched to provide visual confirmation of the vessel, and the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter 'Heron' was launched to tow the vessel into port. Over a two-day period, the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter 'Heron' towed the vessel seven miles south of Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina, where a Station Fort Macon lifeboat crew took over the towing operation and assisted the fishing vessel into the port of Morehead City.

Major damage after allision of Cosco Hope

Wed May 04 12:23:31 CEST 2016 Timsen

Major damage was caused in the early morning of May 3, at the Suez Canal Container Terminal by the allision of the "Cosco Hope" with container crane 17 at berth seven. When the stern hit, while the vessel was maneuvering from the quay to join a southbound convoy and the crane crashed, the damage on a container with chemicals was resulting in a large explosion at the site. Fire fighting forces and civil defence have since controlled the fire at the terminal. Several cranes collapsed or were damaged and stacks of containers knocked over. A few workers reportedly were injured in the accident. Container ship allided with boom, which fell down and caused a fire

Tue May 03 09:29:36 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Cosco Hope" allided with the boom of a gantry crane when leaving the eastern Port Said container terminal on May 3, 2016, around midnight. The boom crashed down on containers on the quay, igniting a fire which engulfed more than 20 containers. At least two people were injured. One of the containers damaged by the boom was loaded with inflammable chemicals. The vessel left the port and was moored on Port Said anchorage. It did not suffer serious damages. The fire was meanwhile brought under control, by fire engines and canal tugs mobilzed by the Suez Canal Authority.
