River cruise ships in collision during prom celebration
The "Cornucopia Destiny" with 100 students from the Weehawken High School collided with the "Sundancer", which was docked at the 14th Street Pier on the Hudson River in Hoboken, New Jersey, on May 24, 2018, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Seniors from Weehawken High School were celebrating their prom. There were 95 passengers and 11 faculty members on board the "Cornucopia Destiny" when it somehow rear-ended the "Cornucopia Sundancer", smashing it into the pier, wher she knocked down a lamppost. Officers of the Hoboken Police Department responded to the scene and helped coordinate buses for the students. Besides the Hoboken police, Hoboken EMS, and New Jersey State Police were on the scene. The students disembarked the ship at 9:50 p.m. The students were en route to the Weehawken Elks via Weehawken TSD school bus. They may continue the evening at the Elks until midnight. No injuries were reported. Damage remained minor.
