Tug saved skipper of sunken cabin cruiser
The crew of the "Coral Coast" saved the life of the skipper of the 32-ft-cabin cruiser "Sheer" off the coast of the Dominican Republic. John McCoy had sailed out onto the sea along with a friend but was forced to stop for an engine repair. His friend got sick, and McCoy sailed on. During the night he woke up as one of the engines was dead. He tried to crank the engine, but it did not start. When he got downstairs to check, he found the hull filled 2 1/2-feet deep with water. The whole inside quarters were flooded. He immediately got on the radio but could not get anybody to respond to him. He got into his 8-foot dingy and took his rescue gear with him, including an EPIRB. After using the system and his radio for five hours, the crew of the "Coral Coast" responded and started a search. Captain James Morrissey and his crew were persistent about finding the man they heard over the radio all night long. They saved McCoy and landed in Blount Island in Jacksonville on Dec 1, 2015.
