Crew change in challenging conditions
The 'Connector' positioned herself off Wicklow Head for a crew change as weather conditions off South Wales, where she had been working, were extremely bad. The vessel was engaged in laying an underwater interconnector cable between Milford Haven and Baginbun Bay in South County Wexford. The 'AMS Panther', one of Alphamarine’s fleet of multi-purpose vessels based at Wicklow Harbour, was tasked to carry out a crew change with the 'Connector', which was a challenging operation due to the distance offshore and the strong wind and tidal conditions. Despite these challenges, the vessel managed the safe transfer of 12 of the crew to shore and 10 of the crew out to the ship. Largest cable-layer works in Irish Sea to connect Dublin with Wales
The 'AMC Connector', the world's largest cable-laying vessel, had her debut in the Irish Sea yesterday as she began work on the last phase of EirGrid's east-west interconnector. It was the Norwegian ship's first job, and after three weeks laying cables between Ireland and Britain, she will move on and ply her trade around the world. She will lay a bundle of three cables -- two power cables and a fibre optic cable -- along a 100km route from North Beach in Rush, Co Dublin, to Barkby Beach in Wales. http://www.independent.ie/national-news/ship-connects-east-to-west-on-maiden-voyage-3089319.html
