Container ship rescued distressed yacht crew
The two persons aboard the sailing vessel “Relentless” were rescued by the c“CMA CGM URAL” south of Bermuda. The 53 foot ketch rigged sailing vessel had departed St. George’s on Dec 9, 2023, en route to the Bahamas and has been abandoned approximately 400 miles south of Bermuda after her autopilot failed and other technical difficulties arose with deteriorating weather conditions. The crew activated the EPIRB. The US Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Centre Miami diverted the nearby container ship, which was en route from Miami to Singapore. The crew of the 'Relentless' able to safely transfer to the ship, and the master diverted to Bermuda as the closest port in order to disembark the two U.S. nationals. The 'CMA CGM URAL' arrived offshore at the pilot station on Dec 15 at 4 p.m., and the castaways were safely transferred to the pilot boat 'St. David' before being landed at Ordnance Island.
Mass illness on container ship from China
Six Sri Lankan crew members of the 'CMA CGM Ural' were suffering from fever and high temperature on board of the 'CMA CGM Ural' which had sailed from Shekou, China, on Jan 15 and was headed towards the Suez Canal via Singapore and was presently transiting the Gulf of Aden. The ship called Shenzhen on Jan 15; Xiamen on Jan 14; Ningbo-Zhoushan on Jan 11 and Yangshan from Jan 8-9. The Merchant Shipping Association of Sri Lanka was alerted on a mass crew illness in the morning of Jan 27. It was not known of course, at present, if the men were in fact infected with coronavirus. Upon the arrival in Suez on Jan 30, the exact type of the disease can be identified with medical facilities.
CMA CGM URAL : New vessel delivered to the CMA CGM fleet
The CMA CGM Group is pleased to announce that the CMA CGM LOIRE and the CMA CGM URAL were delivered on February 5th, and entered the fleet on February 13th and 14th. Those are the 5th and 6th vessels of the 9,400 TEUs to 10,900 TEUs series that will be delivered from now to the third quarter of 2016. The CMA CGM DANUBE, CMA CGM ELBE, CMA CGM LITANI and CMA CGM TIGRIS are the first of this series of 28 vessels named after famous rivers of the world, that started to be delivered on June, 30th 2014. Sailing under the Malta flag and chartered vessels, the CMA CGM LOIRE and CMA CGM URAL were respectively built in the Chinese shipyards DSIC (Dalian, PRC) and NTS (New Times Shipbuildings, Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China). The CMA CGM LOIRE has a nominal capacity of 9,365 TEUs and the CMA CGM URAL a 10,622 TEUs capacity.
