Container ship refloated and sailing again
In the night of Oct 15, the 'CMS CGM Missouri' was successfully refloated at the Great Bitter Lake in the Suez Canal. There were no injuries to the crew and no pollution occurred as a result of the incident. The Suez Canal remained open for traffic following the grounding and the consequent refloating operation. The vessel was moved to a safe anchorage at Great Bitter Lake for a survey and underwater inspection. The vessel's hull integrity was not compromised. The exact cause of the grounding is yet unknown. A full investigation into the incident was conducted. The vessel arrived at Jeddah on Oct 18 at 7 a.m.
Grounding in Suez Canal
The 'CMA CGM Missouri', enroute from Port Said to Jeddah, ran aground in the Suez Canal while transiting the waterway in southern direction on Oct 14, 2020, at 09.30 a.m. The Suez Canal tugs 'Baraka 1', 'Ezzat Adel', 'Mosaed 2' and 'Mosaed 3were' were attending. On Ot 15 the ship remained stuck in pos. 30° 16.60' N 032° 26.91' E. Preparations continue for the safe and successful refloating of its vessel at the Great Bitter Lake. There were no injuries to crew and no pollution has occurred as a result of the incident. Managers confirm the vessel’s hull integrity is intact. Immediately after the incident all relevant parties have been informed. 'CMA CGM Missouri' was stable with the tugs attending and currently awaiting high tide for a next safe, refloating operation. The Suez Canal meanwhile remained open for traffic.
