Container ship rescued 133 migrants in two missions

Tue May 09 11:26:34 CEST 2023 Timsen

The 'CMA CGM Iskenderun', en route from Marsaxlokk to Alexandria, rescued 104 migrants fleeing from Libya, for whom Alarm Phone had launched an SOS on May 8, 2023. The response was coordinated by the Coast Guard. 29 other people at risk of shipwreck were subsequently rescued by the same ship.

Eight migrants were discovered aboard the 'Nordsummer' which docked at the Malta Freeport Container Terminal in Marsaxlokkon Dec 7, 2020. The alleged stowaways were found before the arrival in Birzebbuga, Malta, in the morning. Their nationality was yet to be established.

Boatie sentenced to 100hrs community work after near-miss with 'MOL Summer'

Wed Jun 19 09:24:53 CEST 2013 arnekiel

A boatie has been convicted after cutting his fishing boat in front of a large container ship in Napier, potentially putting the ship at risk of running aground. Robert Greathead, 21, was sentenced to 100 hours community work after being found guilty of the unsafe operation of a ship. The container ship's captain Gus Matson says Greathead's fishing boat, the Regent, cut across the front of his ship MOL Summer as he was bringing it into Napier Port. Mr Matson told Napier District Court he was forced to cut the engines off to avoid a collision, which meant the 38,000 tonne ship lost all steering and had to be pulled into harbour by Napier Port tug boats. He told the court it was the closest he'd come to running over another vessel in 43 years of being at sea. Greathead argued he knew the rules - vessels cannot impede any ship greater than 500 tonnes and must not be closer than 500m from the bow of the ship - and that his radar never showed the ship within 500m of his vessel. http://news.msn.co.nz/article.aspx?id=8677105
