Leaks found after lightering of cargo
The "Claudia“, 960 ts (EU-No.: 04021430; MMSI-No.:211514240), which had caused an oil contamination on the Elbe-Havel Canal on Feb 8 was allowed to continue the voyage to Hamburg after a crane lightered the cargo of 1.000 tons coal at the Gilde Beton facility in Burg. During the following inspections officers of the water police found several leaks in the hull of the ship as well as between the engine room and the cargo hold. As the leaks were above the water line after unloading of the cargo, the ship got the clearance to sail to Hamburg for repairs. The cargo remained in Burg and was to be carried on at a later date.
Leaking barge caused oil spill
On Feb 8, 2018, an oily contamination was remarked on the Elbe-Havel-Canal, which was found to be coming from the "Claudia“, 960 ts (EU-No.: 04021430; MMSI-No.:211514240). The ship was transiting the waterway with a cargo of 1.000 tons coal destined from Hamburg to Berlin. The barge was moored at the canal shore between Burg and Parchau at the facility of the Gilde Beton Company and investigated by the water police. Initially it was unclear, what kind of leakage had caused the pollution. A crane lightered 150 tons of the cargo, and the fire rescue Burg located the leak in the cargo hold, so that the whole cargo would have to be lightered and the ship towed to a yard to patch the leak. The fire brigade removed the oil film from the water. The other canal traffic was not affected.
